Customize job names and descriptions with shortcodes
While creating a job template, include dynamic data—such as the account name or due date—in a job’s name, job’s name and description for a client. This way, you can:
-
Easily tell jobs apart by the specific details in their names once they are inside a pipeline and displayed on job cards.
-
Automatically add more specific information to job description.
-
Share specific information in the job’s name and description for a client.
For available shortcodes and examples, see job template field reference .
Calculate date shortcodes from the job start date
By default, date shortcodes use the date the job is created. If you create jobs ahead of time, turn on Calculate date shortcodes from the job start date below the description, so the job name and description show the period the job is for.
With the switch on:
-
Date shortcodes use the job’s start date, whether it’s relative, absolute or set when adding the job. If the job has no start date, they use the creation date.
-
Each recurring job uses its own start date.
-
[CREATION_*] shortcodes always use the creation date.
The switch is off by default and doesn’t change existing jobs. You can also turn it on or off for a single job in the Add job sidebar, with or without a template.
For example, for a job created on October 23, 2026 that starts on January 5, 2027:
| Job name | Switch off | Switch on |
|---|---|---|
| [LAST_QUARTER] [LAST_QUARTER_YEAR] | Q3 2026 | Q4 2026 |
| [LAST_MONTH_NAME] [LAST_MONTH_YEAR] | September 2026 | December 2026 |
With the switch on, Current year shows the year of the start date. To show the year of the previous or next quarter or month, use Last quarter year, Next quarter year, Last month year or Next month year.
The template form shows a warning when:
-
The template uses [CURRENT_MONTH] or [LAST_MONTH]. These always use the creation date. The warning suggests the shortcode to use instead, such as [CURRENT_MONTH_NAME].
-
Absolute dates is on with a fixed start date. Every job created from the template, including recurring ones, then shows the same period. Turn off Absolute dates to calculate the period for each job.
